Salvation Army collecting undergarments for back to school

Aug 11, 2023

ALPENA — Less than two weeks remain for collecting undergarments for The Salvation Army back-to-school distribution.

The Salvation Army has not received many items for their distribution day.

“This year is critical because of the economy and the lack of funds for families to provide these essential items,” said Major Prezza Morrison. “When a child is not comfortable, this can affect how they learn.”

Currently, The Salvation Army is collecting new socks, underwear, and undershirts for youth of all ages and sizes. Older youth may need adult sizes. Drop off donations between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at The Salvation Army office location at 722 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena. A contactless drop off box is outside the office door for after hours. Items will be collected through Monday, Aug. 21 for use on distribution days.

Distribution days will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22 and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23 for anyone who needs these items. Please contact the office at 989-358-2769 if you have any questions concerning donations or distribution days. Last year, The Salvation Army served over 140 families with 850 items distributed to families. More information will also be posted on The Salvation Army of Alpena Facebook page.

Monetary donations are accepted via mail or in-person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center at 722 N. Second Ave. Alpena, MI 49707, online at www.salmich.org/alpena or via phone by calling Major Prezza Morrison at 989-358-2769, ext. 12. between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Salvation Army is grateful for the community’s continued support.
